Hands up, aside from 'Mmmbop' we were not sure what to expect from brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac, who originate from Tulsa, USA, and have sold in excess of 15 million records worldwide. What we got was high energy pulsating from both stage and audience, and overall, a ruddy good live show! Oh, and not a single 'Mmmbop' in sight!
Produced and written exclusively by the trio, 'Shout It Out' which was released in the UK last week through the band's own label 3CG, is a mature collection of R&B-flavored pop-rock that truly is best experienced live.
Stand out moments included the energetically performed 2nd single from the album 'Give A Little', and 'Use Me Up' on which the vocals were stunning, plus generally Taylor's mesmerizing keyboard playing skills.
Bringing the album and show to a close with the emotional 'Me, Myself and I', Hanson called for silence at which point you could barely hear a pin drop, it was really quite something given the noise that had previously filled the room. Woe betide the security guy who dared to shout something out to a colleague during the song and was met by several dirty looks and unanimous shushes! *Gulp*
The verdict? Hanson are a high energy triumverate with an artillery of finely crafted pop-rock. Shout It Out, resistance is futile.
