Newly signed to Warner Music Entertainment, and presently supporting Olly Murs on his UK and Eire arena tour, we delve a little bit deeper into the musical stylings of songwriting and production duo, Lilygreen & Maguire.
A songwriting and production team in the best traditions of the celebrated duos of the seventies, Jon Lilygreen and Jon Maguire worked on music together for two years prior to signing to Warner in 2011.
Still in their early twenties, both had independently carved reputations for themselves on the south Wales music scene: Maguire as a local studio producer and member of a touring rock band that played shows with Wheatus and The Cribs.
Lilygreen as a covers performer with an enviable ability to perform a huge catalogue of songs, and who also accidentally represented Cyprus at Eurovision in front of a global audience of 160 million people!
Sharing a love of artists as diverse as The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Maroon 5 and Incubus, the two musicians developed their own sound as they pushed against the odds to earn a career in music.
Speaking about their big break, Lilygreen says: “For people like us, being signed is a big big step,”
He continues: “Now we’ve been given this mad opportunity to perform in front of thousands and thousands of people, but if this hadn’t happened we’d still be in our room writing songs. We would’ve pushed ourselves as far as we could.”
Currently working on a debut album, they are co-writing with an impressive pool of talent including Gregg Alexander [The New Radicals], Ricky Ross [Deacon Blue, James Blunt] and Karen Poole [Will Young, Kylie Minogue],
Lead single, 'Come On Get Higher', which is available to download now, was produced by Nick Southwood. It serves as the perfect introdution to Lilygreen & Maguire's melodic, hook-infused pop.
