Last year saw Olly Murs not only present on X Factor, but also perform on it with The Muppets! Now nominated for a BRIT Award and with new single 'Oh My Goodnes' out soon, Mr Murs chats music and BRITS, Muppets, his plans to find a girlfriend, and more!

Hello Olly! Right, Lets get straight to it! What do you think makes a perfect pop star?
I think it’s got to be a mixture of talent, hard work and great songs!!

What artist/music moment first made you think about wanting to get into music and why?
There are loads of artists that have inspired me as a performer – Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Michael Bublé, Robbie Williams. Each and every one of them aren’t known just for their songs, but for being great performers and live entertainers which is something that has inspired me

What was the last album that you download from iTunes and why?
Lana Del Ray – I loved both singles ‘Video Games’ and ‘Born To Die’ so got the album as soon as it came out

Now be honest, what is the most shameful song you have on your iPod and what memory does it conjure up?
It would probably be Jedward!!! They made me download it! It just reminds me of how crazy they were on the X Factor

Can you play any musical instruments? And how involved are you in the music you create?
I can play a bit of guitar, and I’ve just bought a grand piano so definitely want to get some lessons this year. I have co-written the majority of all my songs on both my albums and love getting involved in the writing process

If you had to choose one, which do you prefer - singing or presenting?
Singing! I loved presenting on the Xtra Factor but singing is my full time job and what I love doing every day

You've been nominated for a BRIT Award - congrats! How does it feel to be part of the BRIT nomination gang?
It’s amazing – I’m very grateful that I’ve been nominated for my single, and have been recognized for its success since its release last summer

Come on then, in your own words, why should the public vote ‘Heart Skips A Beat’ as the Best British single at this year’s Brit awards?
They should vote for it because it’s my first No.1 single off the new album – a song that has loads of energy and is just a feel good record. The rap with Rizzle Kicks definitely was a great match and it’s a tough category that we are in, so please vote!

You've been very secretive about the video for your upcoming single 'Oh My Goodness', but what's your favourite music video of the moment?
It would probably be ‘Turn Me On’ by David Guetta ft. Nicki Minaj. It’s quite an eerie video, but a great concept and I love it!

Last year on X Factor you got perform with The Muppets - amazing! How did the collaboration come about?
I have always loved the Muppets and when we heard they were doing a movie my marketing manager and I thought it would be brilliant to do it on the X Factor! We approached Disney and they were luckily really keen!

If you were a Muppet character, which one would you be and why?
I would definitely be Animal because he loves to PARTEEEEEYYYY!

What is Olly Murs’ X Factor?
Hmmm I don’t know… I’m just myself. I love performing, and now I’ve been signed and have had my shot in the music industry I’m going to keep working as hard as I can to sustain it!!!

You're often in magazines and newspapers, but if you could read one headline about yourself in 2012, what would it be?
‘Olly Murs breaks Europe’!!

Gazing into a crystal ball, where would you like to be in 5 years time?
I would like to think that I would still be doing what I’m doing – releasing songs and touring. I would love to have travelled internationally and hopefully have a girlfriend!!
