ITV and the BRITS have issued a statement of apology regarding Adele's acceptance speech for the Master Card Album Of The Year award being cut short.
During the live broadcast, award host James Corden apologised as he interupted Adele who received a standing ovation from the audience at the London 02 Arena as she collected her second prize of the evening.
Public outrage was visible on Twitter last night with the incident rating number 1 in the social networking site's trending topics.
An ITV spokesman said: "The BRITs is a live event. Unfortunately the programme was over running and we had to move on. We would like to apologise to Adele for the interruption."
A BRIT's spokesman followed ITV's statement: "We regret this happened and we send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short this evening due to the live show over-running.
They continued, "We don't want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning our night's biggest award. It tops off what's been an incredible year for her."
